Paul R. Duncan, MD, is a graduate of the University of Washington School of Medicine
in Seattle. He interned in Oakland, California, completed two years as a general medical officer with the Indian
Health Services in Alaska and completed his residency in internal medicine and fellowship in oncology-hematology
through the University of New Mexico. He completed the academic year 1976-77 in a post-graduate year at the
Royal Marsden (Cancer) Hospital in London, UK. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology
and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.
In 1977, along with Drs. Armin Rembe and Julia Pfile, Dr. Duncan formed
Hematology-Oncology Associates. He served as the medical director of the inpatient oncology unit at St. Joseph
Medical Center, now Albuquerque Regional Medical Center, from inception until 1999. He was also
physician leader in the development and continuity of the Presbyterian Oncology program. He was Chief of Staff at St. Joseph Medical Center and a member of the
St. Joseph Hospital Board of Trustees 1989-90. He is a member of the
American Medical Association, the American
Society of Clinical Oncology, the
Greater Albuquerque Medical Association and the
New
Mexico Medical Society. He was a founding
member of the New Mexico Society of Clinical Oncology and the
New Mexico Cancer
Care Alliance.
Since 1996 he has developed expertise in the evaluation of patients with familial
cancers most specifically related to breast and colon cancers. He has published scientific articles in this
important clinical area and spends a significant portion of his clinic time in the area of familial cancer.
